Video Downloader

What it does: downloads a video — or just its audio — from a link you paste. It works with a very wide range of popular video and audio sites.

How to use it

1. Open Video Downloader from the sidebar.
2. Paste a link into the Video URL box. You can type it, use the Paste button to grab it from your clipboard, or drag a link in.
3. Click Probe. Spark Tray reads the link and shows a preview: thumbnail, title, channel/uploader, duration, and what formats and subtitles are available. If the link is a playlist, it's detected here and can be downloaded as a set (one job per item).
4. Choose what to grab:
   • Video — the full video with audio.
   • Audio only — just the sound, extracted to an audio file.
5. Pick your options (below), then click Download. The job appears in the Job Queue.

Options explained

• Quality (video mode): choose Best, 1080p, 720p, or 480p. "Best" grabs the highest quality available; the others cap the resolution.
• Audio format (audio mode): choose your audio file type.
• Download subtitles: when the site provides captions, fetch them in a language you pick. For video downloads you can embed subtitles inside the video file or save them as a separate sidecar file alongside it.
• Embed thumbnail: save the cover image inside the file.
• Embed metadata: save the title, uploader, and description into the file.
• Embed chapters (video mode): save chapter markers when the video has them.

Output

Saved to the Video Downloads subfolder. The estimated file type is shown before you download.

Tips & notes

• A playlist link creates one job per video, so you can watch (and cancel) each item individually in the Job Queue.
• If you see a banner saying the download tools aren't ready, finish setting them up (they come bundled with the app) and reopen the panel.
• If a specific site stops working, its support may need refreshing — see Settings ▸ Tools to update the bundled download engine.
